Stevens Trail is about 7.5 miles long located near Colfax, California.
The trail is great for hiking and normally takes a half day. It is very scenic, rich in history and is on the National Register of Historic places.
From the trailhead at 2400ft., the trail drops gradually but steadily to the river at about 1200ft. Footing is good to excellent, but the trail is narrow in places.
Halfway point is beautiful area at river. You'll see the view the whole way in. It's a downslope to the river, so the return is a mostly gradual uphill.

Difficulty: Moderate due to the incline on the return and narrow spots on ridge

Directions From Sacramento, take Interstate 80 east and exit at North Canyon Way (exit 135) at Colfax. Turn left on North Canyon Way, which parallels the freeway, and after a short distance you'll see the parking area sign on the left side saying Stevens Trail.
Bring
• Hiking Boots
• Hiking Poles (optional)
• 2 liters of water (bring more water than you than you think you’ll drink)
• Sunscreen / sunglasses / hat
• Bathing Suit (optional)
• Lunch / Snacks
• Camera
• Bring a paper or plastic bag for your trash. Pack it in-pack it out. We don’t leave trash on the trail.
• Bring post hiking shoes. Your feet will thank you (and so will the driver)
Meet
Starbucks in Roseville (same as snowboarding) at 8:00am. Please have $10 for your driver if in the carpool.
