Join the NorCal Snowboarders crew on the Glen Alpine Trail as we summit Mount Tallac and stay the night at Gilmore Lake in Desolation Wilderness.

PERMIT FEE: This backpacking trail requires a Permit which has a fee. $10 due upon RSVP’ing via PayPal to info@norcalsnowboarders.com (non-refundable). Must select family and friends option when sending event fee through PayPal. If fee is not received by the end of the day you RSVP, you will be unRSVP’ed from this event.

TRAILHEAD: Glen Alpine Trailhead - 1580 Glen Alpine Rd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150

DISTANCE: 11.8 miles

ELEVATION GAIN: 3,200 ft. (from 6,568 – 9,735 ft.)

TRAIL TYPE: Out and back

RATING: Advanced

DOGS ALLOWED: Yes, 2 dogs max per group. Must be well behaved. Strict leash laws.

DESCRIPTION:

SATURDAY — We will meet at the Glen Alpine Trailhead at 8:30am. We will hike to Lake Gilmore, which is about 4.5 miles and about 1800 ft. elevation gain. We should get there just after noon. After finding a good camp site, we will set down our gear, possibly set up our tents, and eat lunch. 1-2 hours later, we will start a 1.6 mile and 1500 ft. ascent up to Mt Tallac, arriving somewhere around 3pm. We will hang out there for 1-2 hours, watch the sunset over Tahoe, then head back to camp. At camp, we cook dinner, enjoy each other's company, watch the stars, and sleep.

SUNDAY — We will pack up and leave by 9am. After a 4.5 miles decent, we should arrive at the parking lot by noon.

WHAT TO BRING: Hiking boots, water, water filter, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, food, bear can, sunscreen, bug spray, JetBoiler, layers, etc.
